GROUNDWORKS
Underpinning
When converting or refurbishing existing buildings, underpinning may be required to stabilise and strengthen the foundations. There are many reasons building works will require underpinning:
- Foundations affected by subsidence or heave.
- Foundations that have moved as a result of landslip or unstable slopes (retaining walls).
- Accommodating a new adjoining building, a new basement storey or a deep sewer.
- Stabilising foundations supported on unconsolidated made ground.
- Foundations that have undergone settlement.
- Foundations affected by erosion.
- Roads and pathways subject to an increase in load, or alterations to the existing load path.
Reinforced Concrete
Reinforced concrete combines reinforcement and concrete and has applications across many types of construction work. It is often preferred to steel construction for its versatility, adaptability and resistance to fire and corrosion, resulting in negligible maintenance costs.
RC floor structures can be flat slab or joist construction, including precast RC floor structures.
The flexibility of the material makes it ideal for both domestic and commercial use:
- Shed bases
- Garage bases
- Store areas
- Commercial bin stores
Form Work
Formwork is the mould into which concrete is poured. It is generally made of timber or steel, with a lighter-weight modular formwork also used for projects not requiring crane work. The surface the concrete comes into contact with gives the finished appearance. This application is ideal for:
- Walls
- Columns
- Culverts
- Basements
- Foundations
- Tanks
- Pile caps
